Connecting Seniors' Dreams Program

If you could have one dream come true, what would it be?

As Loch Lomond Villa’s "Dream Team" has clearly discovered, there’s no age limit when it comes to having hopes and dreams.  So why should there be one for fulfilling them?

Here are some of the dreams that have come true for our residents

For wheelchair-bound Mabel, there was nothing that would please her more than to be able to visit her grandson in Moncton and to drive over the Confederation  Bridge, which she had never seen.  Not only did Mabel get her wish to visit with her grandson and cross the span together, but once in PEI, there also was a welcome reception arranged in her honour.

One resident had 10 children dispersed all over the world, even as far away as Qatar.  Her dream was to organize a family reunion with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  The Dream Team was up to the challenge, bringing together eight of the 10 children for a family picnic at the Lily Lake Interpretation Centre in Saint John.

The gleam in the eyes of a resident who’s had a dream granted is as bright as that of a child on Christmas morning.  Just ask Peggy, who had a family reunion with her in-laws and extended relatives.  When her daughter from Calgary could not attend, the Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation's Tele-Health Department stepped up and provided a video phone so that Peggy’s daughter could participate in this heart-warming afternoon.

The Villa’s Dream Team continues to ask our residents,  “If you could have one dream come true, what would it be?”  While no one has yet expressed a desire to ride in a hot-air balloon, to date, the Loch Lomond Villa Dream Team has granted 19 dreams, with more  slated to be fulfilled in the near future.

The Loch Lomond Villa "Connecting Seniors' Dreams" Program was the recipient of the 2008 CCHSE Quality of Life Award for “going beyond their job description to improve their patients’ lives through their desire, creativity and dedication”.

In addition to this national award, in 2010, the program was the recipient of the NBANH "Life Enrichment Award".

Without the continued support of our local sponsors, granting dreams would not be possible.  If you or your organization would like to sponsor a senior's dream through a financial donation or through another service, we encourage you to contact us.
